Kalam ("we," "our," or "the app") is a free, independently developed application for reading and listening to Quran verses, hadith, musings, and personal reflections (Tadabbur). This policy explains what information Kalam collects, how it's used, and the choices you have.
Kalam is built and maintained by a single developer. We do not sell your data, and we do not display third-party advertising.
If you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored securely, hashed -- we never see or store your password in plain text). Creating an account is optional; the app can be used as a guest without one, though some features (bookmarking, following, submitting content, notifications) require an account.
If you create an account, you may optionally set a display name and a preferred language. If you publish content (Musings or Tadabbur reflections), you may choose to attach your name or publish as "Unknown Author" -- this choice is yours, and we never reveal your identity publicly if you choose to remain anonymous.
If you enable notifications, we store a device token (provided by Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver notifications to your device. This token is tied to your device, not directly to your personal identity.
Settings like autoplay, auto-scroll, fade duration, sleep timer, and reciter selection are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers, unless a setting is explicitly described elsewhere in this policy as being synced to your account.
If crash reporting is enabled in the app, basic technical information (device model, OS version, app version, and details of the crash itself) may be collected automatically to help us fix bugs. This is standard technical diagnostic data, not personal content.
We collect anonymous usage data -- such as which content types you interact with (views, bookmarks, shares) and general session/return-visit patterns -- to help us understand what's actually useful and improve the app accordingly. This data is tied to your device/installation, not to your personal identity (name or email), and is not used for advertising.

We also fetch publicly available Quran and hadith reference data from Quranpedia and recitation audio from everyayah.com. These requests do not include any of your personal information.
We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, associated personal data is removed, though content you've published (musings, reflections) may be retained in anonymized form if it's already been publicly shared, unless you specifically request its removal.

Kalam is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
